Short answer: No, hose-end sprayers are not recommended when applying Prodiamine WDG.
Here’s why (and what to use instead):
Hose-end sprayers make it almost impossible to control the exact application rate. Prodiamine WDG, liquid fungicides, insecticides, and most selective herbicides require precise ounces per 1,000 sq ft for both safety and effectiveness. With a hose-end sprayer, you’re essentially guessing — you can easily under-apply (weeds break through) or over-apply (risk of lawn damage).
The right way to apply Prodiamine WDG and other liquid lawn chemicals is with a 4-gallon backpack sprayer, a battery-powered sprayer, or a quality handheld pump sprayer. This gives you complete control so you can measure the exact amount of product, walk at a consistent pace, and apply the correct amount of water per 1,000 sq ft.
Quick recap
- Hose-end sprayer for Prodiamine or herbicides? → No
- Backpack/pump sprayer? → Yes, every time
Your lawn (and your weed-free summer) will thank you!
