There are several things that you can incorporate into your pre-emergent strategy for hot zones (like sidewalk/driveway edges and parkways).
- Hit those area earlier, maybe 2-3 weeks before you apply your general pre-emergent application
- If you are using liquid Prodiamine, you can more acutely hit those edges
- You don't need to apply more, just make a conscious effort to apply along all those hot zones
- If you are using granular Prodiamine/Dithiopyr, make sure to sweep any granules that are on the sidewalk/driveway into those edges.
- Again no need to apply more than the recommended application rate
- Make sure you are post-emergent ready
- You'll want to hit what crabgrass does come up while it's young
