Looking to get started caring for your lawn but not sure what type of grass you have? Here are some great resources to help get it figured out:
- Plant identification apps: There are a variety of FREE plant identification apps that allow you to take a picture of a plant, such as your grass, and they will give you a recommendation of what they think it is. One, in particular, is called SEEK by iNaturalist. Here is a link with more information: https://www.inaturalist.org/pages/seek_app
- Your local county extension office: This is really the best way to find out what grass type you have. Your local county extension service, which is a part of your state university, will have an extension office in your county or municipality and all of them have open hours for homeowners to get help like ID of grasses, weeds, and other lawn problems. These are great resources for you because these folks have regional knowledge of what’s going on with other lawns too and can steer you quickly to an answer.
