One of the tools we are happy to offer our app users is the measuring tool for your lawn. This tool relies upon pictures from Google Earth for each address. This means for some new construction/remodeled/re-landscaped homes your picture may be out of date and therefore, not accurate to measure your lawn on the app. Unfortunately, we do not have control over the Google Earth pictures nor the frequency with which those pictures are taken and updated.
You, however, can reach out to Google Earth and request that they update the photo of your address. We can't guarantee when or if Google will update the photo, but it is worth a shot! Here's how:
- Go to Google Earth
- Open the menu in the top left-hand corner of the page
- Select Feedback
.
A feedback box will open on the right-hand side of the screen. This is where you can let Google know that the picture of your address is out of date and request an updated photo. Again, this isn't a "for-sure" solution, but it is a potential one.
Now, we know that this doesn't solve the problem of being able to measure your lawn with the lawn measuring tool; however, you can still measure your lawn by hand and type in your lawn size so that data is available in your app (this will actually be more accurate).
It may be inconvenient to measure your lawn by hand, but you are going to have an advantage by doing so. By measuring your lawn, you are learning your land. You are walking around seeing where it may not be level, where you may have drainage problems, weed patches, etc. Even the Lawn Care Nut himself will tell you there is nothing better than getting boots on the ground and spending extra time in the lawn!
Here is a video of Allyn sharing some good practices for measuring your lawn (start at 3:55):
